Fly for Sumedang

20 January 2021

Torrential rain has caused 2 landslides that claimed 15 lives and rendered 25 others missing (updated data 12  January 20221) in Cihanjuang Village, Cimanggung Sub-district, Sumedang District, West Java Province, on 09 January 2021. According to the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB), the first landslide occurred around 16:00 and the second at around 19:30 local time. BNPB blamed heavy rainfall and unstable soil conditions for the landslides.

Apart from local residents, the victims of the second landslide included members of the search team comprising military officers and Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas) personnel. The number of fatalities might increase as the search team continued to look for more bodies under the landslide mud. U-Inspire Indonesia and Sky Volunteer are also directly involved in this process by doing:
  1. Aerial Damage Assessment
  2. Emergency Response Documentation
  3. Monitor Health Protocol in emergency response
  4. Data and Information Center Support (other support according to the development of the situation in the field)

These activities are needed to support the Search and Rescue of Cimanggung Landslide Victims (Kab Sumedang) with the application of technology and of course, require large operational funds, and currently, our team is already in the disaster area. We expect donations from #orangBaik via our platform for the following uses:
  1. Team Operations for Aerial Mapping, Data Processing, Data Analysis, and Data Dissemination
  2. Purchasing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as boots, rubber gloves, masks, etc.
